Hi Emil, I don't know what platform mrwhale is using, but I would be interested in this for the linux platform. It would be good for the OpenHab binding that Patrick Fink is working on to be able to track battery life on the flic buttons and report when the battery needs changing, similar to other IoT devices.
Cheers,
Brian

RE: Multiple Users in Household
Hi Brownell.e1,
Agreed on the sentiments. I have the flics spread across 3 mobiles. One is left near a couple of flics when the person is home so anyone can use the flic, but that isn't always the case.
I am investigating options of setting up something like OpenHAB, connecting the flics to a home server, and allowing that to manage the actions. This will make the flics much more functional, for very much the same reasons that you have outlined.
An alternative is something like the Logitech Pop buttons, much along the same line as the flics but has its own hub. I would much prefer to link the flics to an existing server, rather than put yet another device on the network, but it has to be easier to set up. Shortcutlabs is working on a linux agent, which works as far as connecting the flics, but doesn't go any further. Like much in the linux world, it is left for the individual to do it themselves...

Non-Mobile flic control
Hi All,
Like many, I am looking to connect the flic buttons to a non-mobile controller so they aren't tied to one person's phone. I have managed to run up the linux connection and can see the buttons registering clicks, but my linux fu is not adequate to go much beyond that, so not very effective. I also have a Harmony hub, and was interested to see if that could directly register the buttons and handle the activities (mainly linking through to LIFx bulbs at this stage). It appears that the Harmony link is just to forward an activation of an action to the harmony rather than a direct link (no mobile involved).
Does anyone have either a how-to for the linux setup to control tasks, or other suggestions for having a "fixed" controller in place for the flics?
Thanks,
Brian
